All on 4 Dental Implants
All-on-4® is the treatment that involves a full-arch of teeth being supported on four dental implants. Four dental implants are surgically placed in the jaw, and a fixed bridge with one full arch of teeth is supported by the implants below. The All-on-4 Treatment Concept can be performed in both the upper and lower arches. This treatment can be a cost-effective, non-grafting solution suitable for some patients who have extensive tooth loss and/or periodontal disease and require a full-arch reconstruction. To get additional information on the All-on-4 Treatment Concept, you may contact us at New York Oral, Maxillofacial, and Implant Surgery. We will be more than happy to assist you with your questions and provide you with extensive detailed information.
Materials for All on 4 Dental Implants
The materials used for these replacement teeth will vary based on your budget and the best fit for you. High-density acrylic, porcelain, and zirconia are the common material choices for the final dental restorations. Each material has its pros and cons. This is one of the things that we will discuss in your consultation when deciding on the best process for you to undertake regarding your tooth replacement.
All on 4 Treatment Process
The process of an All-on-4 treatment can be described in a few steps. First, we will ensure that you are comfortable before the local and IV sedation anesthesia is administered. Next, we will prepare your mouth for the implants, which can include removing your failing teeth and diseased or infected tissue and bone from your gums and jaw. Finally, the titanium implants are placed into your jawbone. Implants are typically placed, two at the front and two at the back, for good support. The surgical sites will then be cleaned, and the tissue incisions will be sutured closed. Once completed, you will be taken to the recovery area of the office to awake from the anesthesia with your new dental implants. Commonly, after implant insertion, a temporary bridge can be immediately placed on the implants on the day of surgery or the day after surgery.
All-on-4 treatment lasts a significantly long time. During a ten-year study, it was found that in five years from their placement, there was a 98% success rate in patients, with 95% of the patients not having experienced even one dental implant failure, a pretty impressive statistic. This is on par with the success rate of most other dental implant procedures.
The All-on-4 treatment concept is more expensive than less permanent treatments, such as dentures, but they are fixed and permanently attached and they last longer than the other options. In the long term, depending on the extent of your dental damage, this can be a more cost-effective fixed permanent option. All-on-4 treatments require the same amount of care as any other tooth replacement procedure. Make sure you keep up with your oral hygiene routine and regular dental check-ups.
