How do I Care for My Socket? For efficient and quick recovery from dry socket treatment, it's necessary to take excellent and adequate care to ensure that the sockets perform better and are functioning efficiently. The individual should follow self-care instructions to reduce infections and promote healing.

Drink Plenty of Liquids

Dentists recommend that the patient drink a lot of clear liquids to remain hydrated and allow the extracted area to stay moist. A dry socket results in excruciating pain that may cause frequent bleeding for the patient. In addition, drinking water prevents the patients from being appalled, a condition commonly linked to pain medications.

Avoid Smoking or using Tobacco Products

Some sockets are treated using artificial material, and smoking or using tobacco products may result in reactions that could corrode or damage the materials hence bringing issues to the patient. In other cases, smoking can release chemicals into the mouth, resulting in conditions that slow the recovery process.

Rinse the Mouth Gently with Warm Salt Water

Dentists advise rinsing the mouth gently with warm salt water a few times a day. Furthermore, salty water can flush out germs or infections that may build up in the mouth.

Be Cautious with Eating or Drinking Products

It's advised that patients be cautious with what they are eating or drinking during the healing period to prevent damaging the dressing of the sockets. In addition, the patient is required to avoid using straws while drinking or eating solid hard foods.

Brush the Teeth Gently

Teeth should be brushed gently around the surrounding socket area to prevent dislodging the sockets, damage, and bleeding. Generally, the level of self-care an individual provides for the socket relates to the health of the socket. Poor self-care leads to costly damages that can make the patient undergo surgical procedures to correct the damaged area.
